Abstract for “What Media Do”

In this article communication as a whole is being explored but with a focus on online communication. There are a number of things that the article refers to as attributes that are important for communication. Accessibility which is how readily the medium can be accessed. Privacy which is how subtly data can be transferred through that media. Fidelity which is the truthfulness of the data that is being transferred. While volume is the amount of data that can be transferred, the velocity is how fast it can be transferred and range is how far it can be transferred. Persistence speaks to how long that data can last and searchability focuses on how easily that data can be found. These are things the article recommends using to measure a means of communication and determining how useful it is. These attributes change for media networks but are based on the same principles.
